Facebook Acquired Snaptu

Facebook enlarges its position to win the social media networking in mobile phone by acquiring Snaptu. We already read that Facebook to get into mobile services, among others, by putting special menu in mobile phones’ production.


“The Snaptu is proud to announce that today we have agreed to acquired by Facebook,” they wrote in a blog web on Sunday (03/20/2011). However, there is no further explained how much the value of the acquisition. They only said that the acquisition will be completed within the next few weeks.

They also mentioned that Snaptu will grow faster and reach more users by joining Facebook. Snaptu will also release new features following the acquisition soon to be accessed perfectly from all types of mobile phones.

Snaptu is an application that can run on phones with different platforms to access network-based services, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Picasa. Snaptu was first developed in 2007 and based in London, England. The main purpose of Snaptu is to provide Internet services on mobile phones to users who have not affordable smartphone.

Before the acquisition, Snaptu has established cooperation with Facebook to develop applications up to be accessed on mobile phones to lower middle class (not smartphone). The application that is called Facebook for Feature Phone supports 2500 types of mobile phones, so it can reach millions of mobile phone users in developing countries.
